Objectives
- Provide knowledge in the scientific and technica lareas
that allow pulpal and periapical diagnosis, prevention
and treatment of pathologies of the hard tissues of the teeth.
- Train students in the technical execution of cavity
preparations and restorative treatments in a
pre-clinical environment in the field of Dentistry
- Train students in the technical execution of root canal
treatments in molars and no-sugical retreatments
Support the selection and rational use of
biomaterials related to conservative dentistry.
Learning outcomes and competences
- Carrying out endodontic treatments, emergency pulpotomies and pre-endodontic reconstruction in multi-rooted teeth with low difficulty.
- To perform cavity preparations in a pre-clinical environment, for different types of restorative materials
- Acquire the ability to make decisions regarding the types of cavity preparation, filling materials to use and endodontic techniques that allow proposing adequate treatment plans for the treatment of carious lesions at different stages

Teaching methods and learning activities
- Theoretical and theoretical-practical classes with presentations regarding the syllabus; online complement, with videos of technical procedures and clinical cases available on the Moodle platform
- Pre-clinical classes where the students develop their skills in order to technically perform the tooth cavities preparation and restorative treatments of the area of Restorative Dentistry and Endodontic treatments/retreatments, selecting and rationally using biomaterials related to these two areas of Dental Medicine.

Eligibility for exams
According to the General Regulations for Student Assessment at the University of Porto, a student is considered to have attended a course unit if, having been regularly enrolled, he/she does not exceed the maximum number of absences corresponding to 25% of practical and theoretical-practical classes, as regulated by the organic unit.
ATTENTION: There is no exception for students with special status; To obtain attendance, it is mandatory to carry out pre-clinical work during practical classes, with a positive evaluation. In all practical classes there will be continuous assessment. The lack of this component in practical classes prevents students from going to appeals and special exams.
Calculation formula of final grade
Distributed assessment without final exam.
Two theoretical assessments (50%); Preclinical work (20%) and preclinical practical evaluation (30%).
Composition of the final assessment: assessment of the practical components of Dentistry and Endodontics (50%) + assessment of the theoretical components (50%).
Examinations or Special Assignments
The retake exam includes all the material taught in the semester (written test), practical assessment on a bottle tooth or extracted human tooth and an oral test.
Classification improvement
Final theoretical test during the assessment period of the appeal period. It includes all the material taught in the semester (written test), practical assessment on a bottle tooth or extracted human tooth and an oral test.
