Objectives
At the end of the UC students will be able to understand the Health / Oral Disease binomial in the field of Oral Public Health through the identification of oral health problems and their determinants.
They should acquire knowledge and develop skills and capacities within the field of Preventive and Community Oral Health in order to understand and recognize the risk factors and determinants of oral diseases and be able to incorporate a critical view of the importance of prevention, oral health education and oral health promotion.
Learning outcomes and competences
It is expected at the end of the semester that students have acquired knowledge and developed skills and abilities that allow them to implement preventive measures in a clinical and community context.
In addition, students are expected to acquire skills and competencies to plan and develop Community Oral Health Promotion actions.
Working method
Presencial
Pre-requirements (prior knowledge) and co-requirements (common knowledge)
Students must have knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the oral cavity to enable them to understand the binomial health / disease.
Students should have basic knowledge in Public Health and Epidemiology.

Teaching methods and learning activities
Theoretical Classes, Seminars and Practical Theoretical Classes.
Theoretical classes with an expositive component , using iconographic material such as powerpoint or videos (in those themes where the use is justified). Despite the expository component students will be invited to participate with questions during class but also with, using the Moodlle platform to answer questions on the theme of the theoretical lesson. These questions are part of a purely formative evaluation context.
The seminars will aim to give the student an integrated view of the subjects taught.
The theoretical lessons will take place in a preclinical environment and in the community.
The students will be trained in primary prevention strategies and the resolution of clinical cases.
In the community the students will be responsible for the realization and coordination of an action of Oral Health Promotion.

Eligibility for exams
Students obtain attendance if they are present in 75% of the theoretical-practical classes
Calculation formula of final grade
Theoretical evaluation (60% of the final evaluation):
Evaluation of discontinuous and terminal character, foresees the realization of a written test.
Minimum score of the theoretical evaluation 10.0 out of 20.
TP evaluation - 40% of the final evaluation):
This evaluation, of a continuous and procedural nature, contemplates the realization of worksheets, and the accomplishment of an action of promotion of Oral Health in the Community.
Obligation, regardless of the student's status, to carry out all the components of the TP evaluation.
Components of the theoretical-practical assessment (minimum score 10.0/20):
Worksheets - 20% of the theoretical-practical component
Oral health promotion" work 80 % of the theoretical-practical component.
Minimum grade of the theoretical-practical avliation 10.0 out of 20.
Calculation of the final grade:
Final rating = Theoretical rating (maximum 12 values) + theoretical-practical rating (maximum 8 values)
Examinations or Special Assignments
There are no special tests or assignments planned.
Internship work/project
Not required.
Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)
Implementation of the standards set by the FMDUP Pedagogical Board for the academic year 2022/2023.
Classification improvement
The improvement of the classification can be done through a written test (min. 10.0 out of 20 values) and a practical exam that will cover the subjects taught in the TP classes (10.0 out of 20 values).
