Objectives

The UC aims to obtain knowledge on the morphology of the permanent teeth of the posterior group, the deciduous teeth, the embryonic development of the teeth and the orofacial massif and the angiology and neurology of the stomatognathic system.

Learning outcomes and competences

Students should develop skills and abilities to identify teeth, understand the embryonic development of teeth and orofacial massif, blood vessels and nerves of the head, face and oral cavity. They should incorporate in their development a critical view of the importance of this knowledge in the etiology of pathologies and in terms of its manifestations and clinical implications.

Program

DENTAL MORPHOLOGY - Study of the general and specific morphological characteristics of the permanent teeth of the posterior group and of the primary dentition, study of the dental eruption process, the chronology of the teeth eruption and the morphological differences between the primary and permanent dentition.
EMBRYOLOGY - General and specific study of human orofacial embryology and of the oral and dental cavity, dental malformations.
ANGIOLOGY - Introduction to angiology, study of blood vessels and vascular patterns, carotid system, neck triangles and blood vessels of the head and neck.
NEUROLOGY - Introduction to neurology, divisions of the CNS, general considerations about the SNP and the ANS, cranial nerves, anatomy of the surface of the head and neck and tissue spaces of the face and neck.
PHYSIOLOGY OF THE STOMATOGNATIC SYSTEM - Chewing, phonation, swallowing, breathing and digestion

Teaching methods and learning activities

Theoretical classes - presentation and explanation on the topics of oral morphology, embryology of the orofacial mass and teeth, angiology, neurology and physiology.

Theoretical-practical classes - presentation and explanation on the topics of oral morphology, embryology of the orofacial mass and teeth, angiology, neurology and physiology.

Practical classes - Dental sculpture made in wax, using the methods of subtraction and addition. Completion of forms alluding to the subject taught. Use of a virtual learning environment implemented through the use of the Moodle platform in the teaching of oral morphology, embryology and anatomy of the stomatognathic system.

Amount of time allocated to each course unit

Designation Time (hours)
Frequência das aulas 2,00

Eligibility for exams

Attendance of at least 75% of the theoretical-practical and practical classes.
The attendance obtained in the theoretical and practical and in the practical classes of the curricular unit is valid for one year in case of disapproval.

Calculation formula of final grade

Theoretical assessment with an exam at the end of the semester focusing on the subject taught in the semester that will have a weighting of 50% in the final classification.

Practical assessment with a practical exam at the end of each semester focusing on the subject taught in the semester which will count with 50% for the final practical boot. The continuous assessment obtained in practical classes will count with the remaining 50% for the final grade of this component. The average of the marks obtained in these two practical components, continuous assessment and final exam, will have a weighting of 50% in the final classification.

Minimum score in each of the evaluation components, theoretical and practical, of nine point zero values out of twenty.

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

Classification improvement

Conducting a theoretical and practical exam focusing on the subject taught in the semester, keeping the grade of continuous practical assessment.
