Objectives

1 - The general objectives of the General Orthodontic Affairs I Curriculum Unit of the 12th Specialization Course in Orthodontics are to provide the following fundamental skills:
- Ensure adequate knowledge of general orthodontic matters;
- Develop the knowledge in subjects related to radiographic cephalometry, diagnosis and treatment plan in orthodontics;
- To develop skills and a sound understanding of scientific methods, the evaluation of scientifically established information and the analysis of data on the best diagnostic and therapeutic procedures from an evidence-based perspective;
- Acquire a desire for learning based on curiosity, rigor and the pursuit of knowledge.

Learning outcomes and competences

It is intended that the student:
- Ensure adequate knowledge of general orthodontic issues;
- Develop knowledge in topics related to radiographic cephalometry, diagnosis and treatment plan in orthodontics;
- Develop skills and an informed understanding of scientific methods, the evaluation of scientifically established information and the analysis of data on the best diagnostic and therapeutic procedures from an evidence-based perspective;
- Acquire a desire for learning based on curiosity, rigor and the pursuit of knowledge.

Eligibility for exams

Obligatory presence of at least 75% of contact hours.

Calculation formula of final grade

Attendance x 10% + Laboratory Work x 40% + Final Test x 50%

The result of the evaluation will be expressed on a numerical scale from 0 to 20 values.

The student whose final evaluation score is equal to or higher than 10 values is considered approved in the general orthodontic subject unit I.

There are no precedents in the general orthodontic subjects I course of specialization in orthodontics.

Observations

The curricular unit of General Orthodontic Affairs I obeys the Regulations of the Specialization Course in Orthodontics and the Regulations of the Centre for Continuous Education of the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Porto. The situations not contemplated in these Regulations follow the Regulations of creation, internal accreditation and accreditation of training courses in the area of continuing education of the University of Porto, and the cases omitted are decided by order of the rector, upon proposal of the course coordinator.
