Objectives
Familiarize students with laboratory techniques of dental prosthesis.
Apply the new technologies to laboratory procedures of dental prosthesis, both conventional and implant-supported.
Learning outcomes and competences
As a learning outcome, students must understand in detail the step-by-step laboratory procedures for removable partial denture, complete denture and fixed prothesis, as well as the application of new technologies in the laboratory techniques of dental prosthesis, namely in planning and fabrication of surgical guides and radiological templates for implant surgery.

Promote health and attitudes of cross-infection control between dental operatory and dental laboratory.
Understand the laboratory requirements and show effective communication with laboratory technicians.
- Planning and fabrication of surgical guides and radiological templates for implant surgery.
- In removable partial denture: steps for removable partial denture fabrication; use of a dental surveyor; laboratory technique for skeletal denture; denture repairs; tooth additions; additions of other prosthetic components; relining and rebasing.
- In complete dentures: steps for complete denture fabrication - presentation of different methodologies; denture repairs; rebasing.
- In fixed prosthesis: fabrication process steps for fixed prosthesis components - crowns, bridges, veneers, waxing, casting, ceramics. New technologies in the laboratory techniques of Fixed Prosthodontics (ex: CAD-CAM).
