Objectives

Teach Korkhaus oclusion anomalies, orthodontic  appliances, cephalometric diagnostic evaluation, facial and soft-tissue evaluation.

To integrate this knowledge with the study of orthodontic cases.

Learning outcomes and competences

To know Korkhaus oclusion anomalies and orthodontic appliances.

Capacity to make cephalometric diagnostic evaluation, facial and soft-tissue evaluation.

Capacity to purpose the correct orthodontic appliance whem studying clinical cases.

Pre-requirements (prior knowledge) and co-requirements (common knowledge)

The knowledge provided in this course is in continuation of the Orthodontics I and Orthodontics II curricular units whose subject matter is essential for the understanding and practical application of the knowledge acquired in Orthodontics III.

Program

Class I, Class II and Classe III Sindromes - Korkhaus classification of malocclusion.

Clinical seminars.

Complementary diagnosis.

Types of orthodontic appliances I, II, III. It will be presented de different kinds of malocclusion, with its etiology, diagnosis and treatment.

It will be presented the different kinds of orthodontic devices, divided in removable, fixe, functional and extra-oral traction.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Theoretical/Practical. In which its contents are displayed in format of theoretical and practical lessons, but with participatory classes by students.

At the same time, students are divided into goups, making a working group about a subject to be assigned.

Distributed evaluation with final exam.


Each component (theoretical and practical) has a miminum classification of 9,0 out of 20.

Final mark from 0 to 20 points = theoretical test (2 written test with 50% value each one) x 0,50 + pratical evaluation (2 written test with 50% value each one ) x 0,50

Because of the Covid 19 the students that decided to make the reports and group work will have additional points at the pratical evaluation
 
Minimum of 10 points must be achievd for final approval.


Students with a late course with valid frequency:
Approval: minimum of 10 points (out of 20).
Prerequisite for approval at any time and scheme: minimum grade of 9.0 (out of 20) in each of the theoretical and practical components.
50% practical exam + 50% theoretical exam

Students in special assessment:
Approval: minimum of 10 points (out of 20).

Examinations or Special Assignments

Students whose statute includes special attendance and / or assessment regime and do not fulfill the ordinary evaluations, in order to be able to enjoy the ordinary regime, may not miss more than 50% of these evaluations .; however they will have to provide additional evidence depending on the missing assessment element (s).

Students whose status allows for the special assessment scheme may be assessed outside the normal calendar.

The theoretical-practical and practical components are considered indispensable for the approval of all students, it is necessary a minimum of 9.0 values in each of the components.
Approval: minimum of 10 points (out of 20).
Special assessment exam: written test, oral test and practical test, with a weight of 50% practical contents + 50% theoretical content.

Classification improvement

Grade improvement in the same semester:
Approval: minimum of 10 points (out of 20).
Prerequisite for approval at any time and scheme: minimum grade of 9.0 (out of 20) in each of the theoretical and practical components.
  50% practical test + 50% theoretical test

Grade improvement in the following school year:
