Objectives

Learning of concepts in the context of Preventive Dentistry.

It is intended that students acquire, through the discussion of clinical cases, knowledge, skills and competences within the background of primary, secondary and tertiary, in order to qualify them to apply preventive methods in the control of oral diseases in a clinical context.

 It is intended that students acquire skills and knowledge that allow them to be able to plan, develop and monitor a community oral health program, this objective is fulfilled through the epidemiological survey performed by students that allow them to know the needs of the population in terms of oral health.

Learning outcomes and competences

The syllabus enables the achievement of learning objectives as provides students with knowledge and skills that allow them in clinical situations, direct contact with patients, being able to diagnose preventive needs, carry out preventive procedures and motivate for positive behaviors within the context of oral health.

Students will be able to diagnose oral health needs in a community context since they will be provided with knowledge and skills that allow them to carry out epidemiological surveys.

The syllabus enables the achievement of the objectives and measurement of learning outcomes, because enables the review of basic concepts of preventive dentistry and oral health community, allowing students to develop skills that allow them to implement preventive measures in clinical and community context.

Teaching methods and learning activities

The teaching of the Curricular Unit is carried out in Theoretical Practical classes with the following framework:

!) Discussion of clinical cases, problem based learning that simulates real situations allowing the application of knowledge, skills and competences acquired.


2) Training in clinical environment, skills within the framework of the application of preventive methods in oral health.

3) Epidemiological surveys

Terms of frequency: Students must attain at least to 75% of all Theoretical- practical lectures.

Minimal classification 10 in 20 in all components of Theoretical- practical evaluation.

Calculation formula of final grade

Addition of all evaluation components.

60% written test + 40% field work component.

It will be necessary to obtain a minimum grade in the written test (10,0 /20) out of 20, in addition all students, regardless of the status they  will have to make the field work  and obtain a minimum grade (10,0 out of 20) .
