Objectives
- Introduce the Psychology as a scientific domain, presenting its main models and approaches in an interdisciplinary perspective, building briges with Dental Medicine.
- To approach the person as a complex whole (considering individual, social and cultural dimensions of the person’s functioning) and within the specificities of each developmental phase (childhood, adolescence and adulthood).
- To apply observation, identification and interpretation skills to human expressions (behaviors, emotional reactions, or non-verbal communication) in the context of the dynamics of a dental medical interview.
- To act appropriately in the presence of those expressions and dynamics emerging in the context of the dental medical interview.
- To adopt a clinical attitude that contributes to a more successful dental medical practice (based on respect, attention, an available posture and an understanding and empathic approach to the person).
- To develop critical and analytical skills.
- To develop a professional attitude in class and regarding the medical interview process and peers/colleagues.
Learning outcomes and competences

Teaching methods and learning activities
Theoretical classes:
(1 hour per week)
Presentation and discussion of the respective syllabus.
Theoretical-practical classes:
(1.5 hours per week)
Clinical nature, for the application of doctor-patient interaction skills: initial discussion of the topics for the class, observation of role-models, role-playing with peers and discussion (with feedback) based on clinical cases.
Materials on each topic to be addressed are made available to the Moodle platform.

Eligibility for exams
Criteria:
- 75% minimum of class attendance;
- participate in laboratory work;
- produce and deliver the requested pratical works;
- attending the final exam;
- 9,0 values minimum (on a 0 to 20 points scale) in each assesment element (i.e.: "continuous, processual" and "descontinuous, terminal").
Calculation formula of final grade
45% Continuous, processual - Participation, laboratory and written work;
45% Descontinuous, terminal - Final exam;
10% Class attendance
