Objectives
The general aims of Orthodontic Techniques - Unit IV of the 11th Post-graduation Course in Orthodontics offers the following core competences:
- to Know the basic notions of orthodontic mechanics;
- to develop the straight wire technique;
- to be able to do indirect bonding in orthodontics.
Learning outcomes and competences
The expected learning outcomes of the Orthodontic Techniques IV Curriculum Unit are that the students will acquire:
- the main basics of orthodontic mechanics and can apply them in clinical practice;
- adequate knowledge of the straight arch technique and be able to apply it in clinical practice;
- the basic knowledge of indirect bonding of brackets and their application in clinical practice.

Eligibility for exams
Mandatory attendance at least 75% of contact hours
Calculation formula of final grade
- Attendance x 10% x + Continuous assessment + 90%
- The final classification will be expressed in numerical scale from 0 to 20.
- It is approved the student whose final grade evaluation is equal to or above 10.
Observations
Precedence Scheme: - There is no precedence in this unit.
Statute of limitations: - A student cannot register more than two times in this unit.
Omissions: This unit obeys the Rules of the Post-graduation Course in Orthodontics and Regulation of the Centre for Continuing Education of the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Porto. Situations not covered in these regulations follow the precepts of the rules of establishment, accreditation and the accreditation of internal training courses in the area of continuing education of the University of Porto. The omitted cases will be decided by head of the University of Porto taking the recommendation of the course coordinator into consideration.
