Objectives

The course aims at training and training in accordance with the internationally accepted standards and adequately regulated to the specialty of pediatric dentistry.


At the end of the course, the student should be competent for the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric patients. For this purpose should be able:

- In all areas of pediatric dentistry care for the child growth and development.

- The oral needs of conventional children and children with special needs, from birth to adolescence.

- To continue to acquire knowledge and skills related to their specialty, throughout his professional life.

- To investigate in clinical areas and basic science specialty.

- To work in multidisciplinary teams that aim to child health.

- To teach oral health care for both children and their caregivers such as Doctors Dentists and member general staff of the health care team.

- To exercise the specialty with high professional and ethical standards.

- To act as an expert in pediatric dentistry and matters relating thereto.


Learning outcomes and competences

Graduating professionals in pediatric dentistry that:


- Be competent in all areas of pediatric dentistry care for the child growth and development.

- Be competent in oral needs of conventional children and children with special needs, from birth to adolescence.

- Be able to continue to acquire knowledge and skills related to their specialty, throughout his professional life.

- Be trained in Pediatric Dentistry and able to investigate in clinical areas and basic science specialty.

- Be able to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams that aim to child health.

- Be able to teach oral health care for both children and their caregivers such as Doctors general dentists and staff member of the health team.

- Be competent to exercise the specialty with high professional and ethical standards.

- Be competent to act as experts in pediatric dentistry and matters relating thereto.

SCIENCE OF BEHAVIOR / LIDAR WITH PATIENTS


SEDATIVOS / GENERAL ANESTHESIA

Dealing with the patient:
- approach to behavioral problems.

- techniques of behavior organization.

- approach to ethical problems of multicultural origin.

- application of informed consent models.

- principles of biological psychology.

- cognitive psychology and learning.

- developmental psychology and socio-psychology (theories of child development, age and stages, expansion of development, personal perception, attitudes and social influences on behavior).

- theoretical principles of communication.

- psychological, ethical and philosophical aspects of the dentist-patient relationship.

- structure and content of information.

- Attitudes and types of response in the professional environment.

2 Sedatives

2.1. Pain Control (Painless Dentistry):

- pain psychology (types of pain, structure of pain perception, social and cultural influences on pain behavior and measurement of pain intensity).

- interaction of local anesthesia with drugs.

- local and generalized complications following administration of local anesthetics.

- administration of local anesthesia in children.

- recognize and treat local and generalized complications that may occur during and after local anesthesia.

- apply resuscitation techniques.

- allergic reactions to local anesthetics.

2.2. Conscious sedation


- informed consent.

- Instructions to parents or guardians.

- medical history and physical examination relevant to the administration of a sedative.

- medical assessment and risk assessment (ASA).

- advise with appropriate medical personnel on the patient's clinical condition.

- sedating the patient by inhalation and according to the pharmaceutical means.

- Operative and postoperative control (oximetry, measurement of cardiac and respiratory rates, and blood pressure), and apply license criteria with proper documentation.

- deal with any reasonable complications that may occur.

- to apply resuscitation and rescue methods.

- physiology of respiration, blood circulation and central nervous system.

- effects of nitrous oxide / oxygen on respiration, blood circulation, protective reflexes, consciousness, coping, and the patient's experience in terms of pain and anxiety.

- indications and contraindications of sedation made by inhalation and use of drugs.

- indications and contraindications of risks to the health of patients and staff, due to sedation with nitrous oxide.

- washing and consumption systems.

- emergency support services.

- legislation, rules and laws that apply to the sedative effect.

- financial considerations and safety quality.

- basic conditions for reception of nitric oxide / oxygen equipment.

- care and surveillance of said equipment.

2.3. Deep sedative effect. All notions for a sedative effect include:


- intravenous access.

- evaluation of the preoperative diet.

- Carry out deep sedation.

Deep sedation and the need for the presence of an anesthetist.

3 General anesthesia:

- organization of the pediatric dental service (inpatient and outpatient, emergency, and outpatient services).

- indications and contraindications to the use of general anesthesia.

- measures to control infections in the areas used.

- interpreting laboratory tests.

- drugs and equipment used in general anesthesia.
