Teaching methods and learning activities

The teaching method consist of theoretical and practical classes with the corresponding assessment. The methodology of assessment is continuous, formative and processual, being distributed in both components. The evaluation of ordinary students will occur with several written tests and practical works during the semester, weighing 45% T + 45% P + 10% attendance . The student can opt for a distributed assessment with final exam, if he doesn’t accomplish mini-tests T, being applied the same weight. To get the approval, the student should obtain a minimum mean of 10,0 in both theoretical and practical components.

Evaluation Type

Distributed evaluation without final exam

Assessment Components

Designation Weight (%)
Participação presencial 10,00
Teste 45,00
Trabalho laboratorial 45,00
Total: 100,00

Amount of time allocated to each course unit

Designation Time (hours)
Estudo autónomo 27,00
Frequência das aulas 18,00
Trabalho laboratorial 36,00
Total: 81,00

Eligibility for exams

See academic rules of University of Porto. A minimum of 75% of class attendance.

Calculation formula of final grade

Final mark from 0 to 20 points = (average of all theoretical tests x 0,45) + (average of all practical work + continuous evaluation mark x 0,45) + (class attendance x 0,1) Minimum of 10 points must be achievd for approval.
A minimum of 10,0 points (in 20) is required in either theoretical and practical evaluation.

Examinations or Special Assignments

For convenient planning of these tests students who wish to make use of special statutes in use, they will have to inform the respective class teachers practice in tne beginnig of the semester. Students attending special statute that allows a frequency regime and / or special assessment may have additional evaluation . The type and number of tests will be determined individually depending on the work missing and will be performed corresponding to the ordinary students. Students not ordinary that meet all the evaluation moments of ordinary students are exempt from trials and special works .

Internship work/project

See Special Assessment

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

Those students whose statute allows them a special evaluation regime may be evaluated apart from the regular calendar and may have complementary evaluation. A minimum of 10 points must be achieved for approval. Although a minimum of 10 points (in 20) is required in either theoretical and practical evaluation. Final mark from 0 to 20 points = theoretical test x 0,50 + (average of all practical work + continuous evaluation mark) x 0,50

Classification improvement

According to the rules of the faculty’s evaluation procedures. This exam includes theoretical and practical components. Final mark from 0 to 20 points = (theoretical test x 0,45) + (practical work x 0,45) + (class attendance x 0,1). A minimum of 10,0 points (in 20) is required in either theoretical and practical evaluation.
