Objectives

Acquisition of skills by students in science and technique that will enable them for diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases of hard tissues of teeth, as well as reasons for the development of treatment plans. Students should be able to technically perform the restorative treatments in clinical environment of the area of Restorative Dentistry. Students should be able to learn to share with patients the diagnosis and prognosis of their problems in the field of Restorative Dentistry and prepare decisions in order to learn propose treatment plans for their resolution.

Learning outcomes and competences

The programmatic content enables the fulfillment of the given goals that allow the learning of basic forms of treatment of dental caries and other diseases affecting the hard tissues of of the tooth. Learn to share with patients the diagnosis and prognosis of the problems of Operative Dentistry area and acquire the capacity to make decisions in order to propose treatment plans for their resolution..

Auxiliary tools for restoration retention. Different types of pins and pin intraradical dentin. Advantages and disadvantages.

Traumatology and restorative dentistry

Aditional strength and retention on restorations. Different types of pins -  intraradicular and dentin: advantages and disadvantages.

Clinical use of glass ionomers and their derivatives.

Carious cervical lesions and non-carious, differential diagnosis and treatment protocols. Classification of caries.

Dentinal sensibility. Ethiology, diagnosis and treatment.

Introduction to the use of composites. Dentine Adhesives.

Polymerization systems. Halogen light curing radiation. Photopolymerization by laser, plasma arc and LED

Esthetics in Restorative Dentistry. Color characteristics. Concepts of layering of composites.

Bleaching of vital teeth and non vital teeth.

Techniques for large restorations on posterior teeth with composite resins.

Presence of at least 75% of contact hours of the theoretical-practical lessons and practices.

Calculation formula of final grade

Distributed evaluation without final exam in which will be considered one first evaluation with a ponderation of 10%, the average of two theoretical evaluations with a ponderation of 45% and the average of the evaluation of the work done during the preclinical classes together with the classes presence/participation with a ponderation of 45%
