Objectives

The general aims of the course of Orthodontic Sciences II provide the following core competencies :
- Ensure the appropriate knowledge of the basic science of orthodontics to allow recognize deviations from normal dentition and craniofacial growth;
- Develop knowledge on issues related to the malocclusion and biological bases of tooth movement and orthopedic dentofacial ;
- Being able to diagnose dentition abnormalities , craniofacial structures and functional conditions.

Learning outcomes and competences

The contents are oriented in the sense that at the end of the course the student is the holder of the knowledge, skills and competencies that enable to recognize deviations from the normal development of the dentition and craniofacial growth, relate malocclusion and biological bases of tooth movement and orthopedic dentofacial and be able to diagnose dentition abnormalities , craniofacial structures and functional conditions. It seeks to create theoretical basis that built the progressivity of scientific and clinical knowledge in the field of orthodontics specialty, contributing to a scientifically more effective practice.

Pre-requirements (prior knowledge) and co-requirements (common knowledge)

In addition to the basic knowledge of any dentist / PhD student :


English language knowledge;
knowledge and ability to work with basic computer programs.

- Deformity dentofacial ;
- The Class I syndromes , II1 , II2 , III ;
- The cross- bite, open bite , deep bite ;
- Early orthodontic treatment , orthodontic-surgical , orthognathic-surgical orthodontic; ortho- perio ;
- Orthodontic problem of third molars ;
- Guidelines for assessing the severity of orthodontic anomalies ;
- The biological basis of orthopedic therapy dentofacial ;
- Orthodontics , deontology and social and professional communication;
- The management in orthodontic activity.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Theoretical learning - 1 weekly T class 60 minutes. Considerations on the subject of the lesson, using appropriate audiovisual material. theoretical and practical learning - 1 weekly class TP 60 minutes. Discussion of relevant issues on the topic of the lecture . bibliographical research for development work in the form of article and respective brief oral presentation.

Conditions Frequency: get the student rate that does not exceed the limit of absences in the TP and PL classes. Force the frequency regime of UP and attendance regulation FMDUP from 2015/2016 (75% contact hours ) .

Students with attendance exemption ( IS) :

Classification improvement

According to the rules relating to the procedures for assessing FMDUP . The grade improvement is made at the time of use through repetition of a theoretical exam will include the matter of the TP classes.

Final note = T test (100%).

Observations

Proofreading - Students who wish to review the respective theoretical exam may do so on the date and time indicated by the teacher. This will only advance to register to review the evidence , according to the information to be presented by the teacher.
