Objectives

The general aims of Orthodontic Techniques - Unit I of the 10th Post-graduation Course in Orthodontics offers the following core competences:

- to Know the main components of the fixed orthodontic appliances;
- to ensure adequate knowledge of the various types of orthodontic appliances;
- to develop the ability to analyze and apply the Postulates of Bioprogressive philosophy;
- to acquire the basic knowledge for the use of mini-screws.

Learning outcomes and competences

The main goals for each Student is:

- to know the main components of the fixed orthodontic appliances;
- to ensure adequate knowledge of the various types of orthodontic appliances;
- to develop the ability to analyze and apply the Postulates of Bioprogressive philosophy;
- to acquire the basic knowledge for the use of mini-screws.

Eligibility for exams

Mandatory attendance at least 75% of contact hours

Calculation formula of final grade

- Attendance x 10% x + Continuous assessment + 20% Final exam 70%

- The final classification will be expressed in numerical scale from 0 to 20.

- It is approved the student whose final grade evaluation is equal to or above 10.

Statute of limitations: - A student cannot register more than two times in this unit.

This unit obeys the Rules of the Post-graduation Course in Orthodontics and Regulation of the Centre for Continuing Education of the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Porto. Situations not covered in these regulations follow the precepts of the rules of establishment, accreditation and the accreditation of internal training courses in the area of continuing education of the University of Porto. The omitted cases will be decided by head of the University of Porto taking the recommendation of the course coordinator into consideration.
