Aims:
To explore the interdisciplinar feature of Psychology, deepening its relationship with Dental Medicine;
To explore several issues related to the communication and to the relationship between the doctor and the patient, creating opportunities for students to attain adequate competencies;
To address the psychological challenges that may arouse during a dental appointment, developing and practicing strategies to manage them;
To support the development of students' critical and sicentific thinking, giving awerness about the importance of researching in the field of Psychology Dental Medicine.
Skills; the student will be able to:
- manage and adapt the therapeutic relationship with the patient, promoting the patient well-being, as well as the efficacy of dental interventions;
- identify and magane in an adequate and assertive way several psychological challenges that may occur during a dental appointment;
- think in a critical and scientific way, being aware of the importance of researching in the field.

Criteria:
- 75% minimum of class attendance;
- to activelly participate in the class activities;
- to produce and to deliver the requested pratical works;
- to attend to the final exam;
- 9,0 values minimum (on a 0 to 20 points scale) in each assesment element.

Students with special status, such as working students (Despacho N.° GR.03/05/2011) and finalists(art. 9, do Regulamento Geral para Avaliação dos Discentes da UP) may benifit from a special assessment when they can not attend to classes. These students are advised to speak with the teachers in the beginning of the semester, so the special assessment may be defined in time.
