Objectives

During the Anatomy II course students will learn the anatomical terminology and the nomenclature of the regions in which the human body is subdivided (Nomina Anatomica) as well as the detailed constitution of the locomotor system. Students will have the opportunity to study the Central Nervous System, Sensory Organs, the Cranial Nerves and the Splanchnology.

Learning outcomes and competences

Developing capacities for observation and autonomous study, acquisition of bases of descriptive method and integration of the morphological knowledge with notions of functional anatomy.

Teaching methods and learning activities

 

The lectures will be held in room A133, School of Dental Medicine, University of Porto, and have a duration of 60 minutes. They are mandatory. Lectures will be of three types: (i) introduction to large chapters, (ii) synthesis of subjects taught systematically in practical classes, and (iii) descriptive, whenever the practical approach does not enable their full understanding.

 The practical classes will be held at the Anatomy Theatre of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto, and have a duration of 90 and 120 minutes, respectively. They are mandatory. The opening minutes are devoted to the definition of objectives to achieve during each class and the remaining time will be spent to achieve those objectives through the study and observation of cadaveric material, under the guidance of a teacher.

DISTRIBUTED EVALUATION (AD) will comprise four practical tests (ADP 1-4). The maximum score for each ADP is 0.5 values, which corresponds to the correct identification of 10 anatomical structures. The intermediate ratings are calculated based on the number of correct answers. The classification of AD at the end of the course will be calculated from the sum of the marks obtained in the 4 ADP.

 The FINAL EXAM will consist of a practical and a theoretical test. The practical exam (P) is a "gincana" and consists on the identification of 30 anatomical structures. These are placed in pairs, having the students 1 minute to identify each pair of structures. The classification of 20 values corresponds to the correct identification of 30 structures and the classification of 10 values corresponds to the correct identification of 20 structures. The intermediate ratings will be calculated in proportion to the number of identified structures.

Only the students that have a rating equal to or higher than 10 values in the practical test will be admitted to the theoretical examination.

The theoretical test (T) consists of 50 questions, 30 of short answer and 20 of multiple choice. Only the students who obtain a score equal to or higher than 10 values will be approved in the theoretical examination.

 

The students who obtain a final grade of Very Good (18, 19 or 20 values) will have to perform an oral examination to maintain, or increase, this classification. If not, they will obtain a final grade of 17 values. All students classified between 10 and 17 values may require oral examination to increase their score. However, for these students, the grade with which they apply to the oral examination is not assured.

This evaluation system applies only to students who entered this year (2014/2015) in the Mestrado Integrado em Medicina Dentária and, therefore, are enrolled in the first year of the Mestrado Integrado em Medicina Dentária and enrolled for the first time in UC Anatomy II.


The remaining students who are registered in the UC  Anatomy II, who possess valid attendance to the UC or who are under statute exempting from the requirement to attend, MAY NOT ATTEND TTO HE PRACTICAL Course. Is the transcribed further information from the Pedagogical Council of FMDUP from June 5, 2014: "Following the information on the minimum mandatory curriculum content for enrollment in clinical Course Units, being planned with from the academic year 2015/2016, we would advise that all students during the transitional regime will be possible to take the Course Units of the minimum curriculum content, without having valid frequency provided they comply with the following conditions: be registered to this course unit and can accomplish this by Course final exam. "The evaluation of these students only appears in the FINAL EXAM described above for the students who entered this year (2014/2015) in Mestrado Integrado em Medicina Dentária.
