Objectives
The curricular unit Clinical or Laboratorial Investigation III, annual curricular unit from 2nd year of the PhD program in dentistry, would establish a bridge between research and clinical and laboratory practice, key components in this scientific area.
So are goals of this course produce scientific work in clinical and / or laboratory environment, on issues that can integrate or not the thesis, as well as developing skills in monitoring and control of clinical or laboratory activity in the Master in Dental Medicine or the other Master's degree or specialization courses of the Faculty of Dental Medicine, University of Porto.
Learning outcomes and competences
As a result of learning students must be competent in production of scientific work in a clinical setting and / or laboratory and in monitoring and control of clinical or laboratory activity in the Master in Dental Medicine or in other Master's degree or courses of specialization of the Faculty of Dental Medicine of University of Porto.

During the 2nd year of PhD in dentistry is assigned the proposed thesis topic to the student, so the syllabus of this course will be more targeted to the chosen sub-area (prosthodontics, occlusion, oral implantology, oral surgery, oral medicine, periodontology, dentistry, endodontic, etc.).
However, the syllabus will have in common:
- Observation, diagnosis, treatment plan, conduct of clinical steps, critical query and analysis laboratory support when needed.
- Development of scientific work
- Discussion and follow all procedures by teaching staff attached to the curricular unit.

Teaching methods and learning activities
In this curricular unit students follow the practical sessions and control the clinical and / or laboratory activity in a tutored work directly by the teaching staff of the curricular unit. At the same time develop research papers to be presented at the end of the year, and that, together with the continuous assessment made during the school year are part of the assessment of the curricular unit.
So the teaching method used in the context of this curricular unit is the type tutorial and the evaluation is distributed evaluation without final exam.
