Objectives
The course's main goal is to pass on knowledge about:
- the importance of interpersonal communication in today's society and in the medical and dental profession;
- learning the best way to implement excellency in socio-professional communication within scientific and clinical areas;
- development of research projects;
- standards for publication of scientific articles;
- standards for proposals of research projects.
During the course, students should present a communication versed project, aiming the development in oral communications.
Program
The theoretical-practical program can be narrowed down to the following themes, wich will be approached during the course:
- concept of communication;
- development of communication and its importance in everyday life;
- communication process;
- interpersonal communication;
- "getting the message through";
- communication to the public;
- communication and marketing;
- socio-professional communication;
- standards for publication of scientific articles;
- standards in writing research projects;
- scientific communication.

Teaching methods and learning activities
Lectures and theoretical-practical classes.
Datashow equipment is used for lecturing in all of the classes.
Summaries, bibliogaphy and devices used in each class are entered in SIGARRA by the end of each concerning day.

Eligibility for exams
Students will be submitted to written and practical evaluation. The final score is presented on a scale of 0 to 20.
Students who have a negative rating (less than 9,5), may perform one written exam according to the school calendar. The practical evaluation will be maintained until the completion of the examination.
Only be submitted to the theoretical evaluation, students who exceed the limit of absences permitted.
Calculation formula of final grade
Theoretical evaluation:
- an written exam with multiple choice and quick response questions;
- makes 45% of the final score.
Practical evaluation:
- project presentation;
- makes 45% of the final score.
Course attendance:
- makes 10% of the final score.
Examinations or Special Assignments
Students with special status, can be assigned additional projects and examinations in order to equate its assessment with the students with regular status.
Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)
Theoretical knowledge and practical evaluation score results are required for students to pass the course. Special evaluations may be imposed outside school calendar, according to the following legislation:
- decree-law 358/70 of 29 July;
- decree-law 152/91 of 23 April;
- decree-law nº 125/95 of 31 May;
- ordinance nº 947/87 of 10 December;
- law nº 90/2001 of 20 August.
Classification improvement
Students who wich to improve their theoretical score, may sign up for exams in a specifically designated periode.
The practical classification will be maintained.
