Teaching methods and learning activities

Texts (with a focus on scientific content) will be studied in class and a number of exercises and activities will be undertaken to help the students develop useful reading strategies.

This is a student-centred course in which students will be expected to participate actively. There will also be a certain amount of preparation and consolidation outside class hours.
Material to be used in class will mostly be provided by the teachers but students are expected to have access to a good quality mono-lingual English dictionary and a good quality English-Portuguese dictionary. They will be expected to build up their own glossaries of useful terms contained in the texts studied. Writing exercises will be approached as a group task.
