Objectives

- A framework for the discipline in Dentistry.
- Acquisition of theoretical knowledge related to oral rehabilitation of edentulous patients.
- Contact with materials and laboratory techniques and learning the requirements to be met by the devices necessary for the treatment of edentulous patients.
- Development of skills, that in previous years (ex. 6th year), enable the treatment of edentulous patients in clinical practice tutored by teachers.

Program

Theoretical: - objectives and requirements of a complete denture; total edentulous patient diagnosis; 
pre-prosthetic preparation; 
gypsum models of edentulous jaws; 
intermaxillary relations, setting up models in the dental articulator; 
occlusion in complete denture; 
mounting teeth and waxing; clinical trials; dentures processing and finishing; 
inspection and placement of prostheses in the mouth; 
post-placement observation; denture rebase, reline and repair; overdentures; immediate prosthesis.

Practical: impressions with universal individualized trays; 
filling with gypsum; making custom impression trays; 
making registration bases; intermaxillary records and assembly of models in the articulator; 
mounting teeth with the principles of balanced occlusion; waxing prosthesis; 
inclusion in the kiln and polymerization in water bath; 
 finishing and polishing of prostheses.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Lectures: Exposure of subjects with participation of students.

Seminars: At the end of the main chapters there is a seminar for the structuring of concepts about removable prosthodontics (full dentures).

Classes: Implementation of practical work in laboratory previously illustrated and explained by teachers.

Eligibility for exams

Attendance of at least 75% of the lessons. Presentation of pre-clinical works and respective reports requested by the teacher.

Calculation formula of final grade

Written test:
It consists of a written final exam. It focuses on all the subjects covered during the school year. The minimum grade that the student must obtain the written test to be admitted to the oral test is 10v (0-20).

Oral test:
It consists of an oral examination before a jury composed of 3 elements of the teaching team and chaired by the Head of the discipline. It focuses on all the topics taught in the discipline. If the student has a rating higher than 10 will be released from the oral examination unless: requires improvement of the grade, the average of the previous tests is equal to or higher than 17 and the student wishes to "defend" this classification . If the student decides not to "defend" the note, the final grade will be 16 points.
