Objectives
In Oral Surgery students will learn the pathogenesis and classification of oral diseases, aetiology and processes of oral diseases and issues relating to infection control. Students will be taught the basic principles of oral surgery practice.
Oral Surgery gives students an understanding of the range of surgical procedures which may be used to manage diseases and disorders of the mouth and jaws.
The control of anxiety and pain is fundamental to the practice of dentistry and requires full awareness of the social and psychological needs of the individual patient. By the end of the undergraduate programme students should be competent to administer all forms of local and regional analgesia for dental operations and procedures and have been trained in the management of the complications which may arise in the application of such methods of pain control.
Students will be able to:
̶ Obtain a detailed history of the patient’s dental state and a relevant medical history;
̶ Use laboratory and imaging facilities appropriately and efficiently;
̶ Understand the importance of assessment, diagnosis and documentation;
̶ Be competent at undertaking the extraction of teeth and the removal of roots where necessary;
̶ Be competent at undertaking minor soft tissue surgery;
̶ Have knowledge of the management of acute infection.

5. Third molar included teeth extractions II. Germectomy.
6. Included canine teeth.
7. Supernumerary teeth.

9. Periapical surgery.
10. Endodontic-surgical treatment. Obturating “à retro” teeth.
11. Radicular amputation of lower molars. Hemisection.
12. Crown elongation.
13. Reimplantation and trnsplantation of teeth.
14. Dento-alveolar trauma I.
15. Dento-alveolar trauma II.

A minimum of 75% of class attendance.
Calculation formula of final grade
Final mark from 0 to 20 points = (Theoretical testx 0,45) + (average of all practical work + continuous evaluation mark)x 0,45) + (class attendance x 0,1)
Minimum of 10 points must be achievd for approval. Although a minimum of 7 points (in 20) is required in either theoretical and practical evaluation.
Examinations or Special Assignments
Special works or proofs are unforeseen.
Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)
In order to be approved, the students need the theoretical and practical component. Those students whose statute allows them a special evaluation regime may be evaluated apart from the regular calendar.
