Objectives
To study the interaction of hereditary and environmental factors on the etiology of the disease, particularly oral diseases.
Principles of congenital defect, genetic disease/characteristic, congenital change and types of congenital diseases.
The importance of Genetics as a tool for diagnosis.
Identification of the most frequent orofacial syndromes and assessment of the family risk.
Program
Development of the face and of the oral cavity. Face and genetic diseases. Dental pathology – structure disfunctions; glaze disfunctions; dentine disfunctions; size, number, shape and eruption disfunctions. Hereditary periodontal disease. Non-dental oral disease – syndromes related to cleft lip and/or palate. Ectodermal dysplasia. Down Syndrome. Dental disfunctions in genetic syndromes. Some genetic syndromes of particular interest to dental practice.
