Objectives

Practical and theoretical instruction of means of oral rehabilitation for partially non-dentate
patients requiring use of removable prosthetic dentures.

Program

Theoretical Programme:
1)Definition and objectives of Removable Partial Dentures (rpd). Bio mechanics of rpd. Classification of partially non-dentate arches. Parallelometer. Articulators. Components of rpd. Design principles of rpd.
2)Clinical exam and patient radiograph. Study models and analysis of models parallelometer and articulator. Design of rpd. Planning of preparations to carry out in the mouth. Pre-prosthetic preparation. Working impressions. Construction of rpd frame. Trial of prosthetic frame in mouth. Intermaxillary recording. Altered Model technique. Tooth selection and trial with teeth. Occlusion in removable partial dentures. Fitting of final prosthesis. Patient instructions. Revision consultation.
3)Temporary rpd. Immediate prosthesis. Rebasing, repairs and increase in teeth. Prosthesis over implants. Mixed prosthesis. Maxillofacial prosthesis.

Theoretical-practical programme:
Preliminary impressions. Study models. Observation of radiographs from partially non-dentate patients. Mounting of models in articulator. Analysis of models in parellelometer. Planning and design of rpd. Individual moulds for partially non-dentate patients. Definitive impressions. Intermaxillary recording. Laboratory techniques for constructing prosthetic frames. Preparation of of niches in frasaco. Other preparations of pillar teeth. Repairs and rebasing in rpd.

Clinical practice programme:
Attending to partially non-dentate patients, and fulfilment of all the clinical tasks necessary for construction of rpd.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Theoretical lessons – General understanding with theoretical foundations
Practical lessons - Practical application of the clinical and laboratory instruction given in the theoretical lessons
Clinical lessons - Attending to patients.

Evaluation Type

Distributed evaluation with final exam

Assessment Components

Description Type Time (hours) Weight (%) End date
Subject Classes Participação presencial 99,00
Total: - 0,00

Eligibility for exams

Attendance of at least 2/3 of the theoretical-practical lessons and the clinical practice lessons
Presentation of pre-clinical and clinical work (and respective reports) requested by the teacher.

Calculation formula of final grade

Theoretical assessment - 50%
Practical assessment - 50% (divided equally into the 4 items of practical assessment
referred to)
All grades above 16 must be ‘defended’ in an oral exam, otherwise the student will remain
with a grade of 16 marks.

Classification improvement

The final grade can be improved in the exam period immediately following that in which the
student passed.
