Teaching methods and learning activities
The teaching of Oral Surgery is based on the delivery of theoretical, practical and theoretical/practical classes. The theoretical classes approach the main subjects but not in an very thorough way. They last for 45 minutes, but the last 15 minutes are reserved for the students to clear their doubts. These classes are optional. The practical classes provide the student with surgical practice under the supervision of a teacher. It is vital that the students keep a record of all their surgical performances. The theoretical/practical classes are taught to small groups of students, enabling the encouragement of group work and their broad participation in the discussion of a subject in the middle and at the end of the academic year.
