Alexandra Moreira is a Principal Investigator at the Biomedical Institute of University of Porto where she teaches Molecular Genetics for Veterinary Medicine course and RNA Biology for Molecular Biology Complements, Biochemistry Master course, and is also a member of the Scientific Board for the Molecular and Cellular Biology PhD Program. Since 2013 she is the head to the Gene Regulation research group at IBMC/i3S. Her research group focus on mRNA Biology and gene expression regulation. She aims at understanding the molecular mechanisms involved in alternative pre-mRNA processing, in particular on those events that are physiologically relevant in health and disease, using state-of-the-art molecular biology methodologies. Alexandra Moreira holds a D. Phil. in Molecular Biology, University of Oxford, UK and a degree in Biochemistry, Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon. She supervised and co-supervised several undergraduate, MSc and PhD students, and post-docs, and has always welcomed students in her laboratory to develop their experimental work. She has acted as external examiner in >40 PhD international and national theses. She has published scientific papers in international peer-reviewed journals with >1900 citations, book chapters and patents in the field of Molecular Biology and RNA.
