Clinical Specialization in Oral Pathology

Objectives

General objectives

The Clinical Specialization Course in Oral Pathology aims to develop skills in the scope of diagnosis, treatment plan and therapeutic approach of the various pathologies that affect the orofacial region, in particular the oral mucous membrane, the alveolar bone, and the salivary glands. Specifically, it is intended:
- promote the acquisition of knowledge related to the development, structure and function of the different structures of the orofacial region, under physiological and pathological conditions;
- promote the acquisition of knowledge about the pathologies that affect the orofacial region, detailing its etiology and pathogenesis;
- develop clinical skills and competences for clinical examination, analysis of auxiliary diagnostic tests, differential diagnosis and establishment of a definitive diagnosis;
- develop therapeutic intervention skills on pathologies that affect the orofacial region.
 

 

Learning outcomes

The student, after successfully completing the specialization course, should be able to perform a dedicated clinical evaluation, diagnose and therapeutically address oral mucosa diseases, tumoral and inflammatory bone potology associated with the tooth, salivary gland pathology, temporomandibular disorder, manifestations of systemic diseases in the oral cavity; and treatment of oral diseases in medically compromised patients. It is intended that students know how to diagnose and plan the appropriate therapeutic options, in the various pathologies that affect the orofacial region.
