VIII Jornadas Internacionais "Grandes Problemáticas do Espaço Europeu"

Num espaço europeu muito heterogéneo, mas também polifacetado e cheio de potencialidades, tem-se assistido ao acentuar das desigualdades e ao agravar dos problemas, institucionalizando-se uma crise generalizada, transversal a todos os setores. Para a dinamização do território europeu, num quadro onde a mudança construtiva esteja presente, urge analisar as dinâmicas propiciadoras dessa revitalização, implementando estratégias estruturantes, conjunturais, inovadoras e sustentáveis, que mitiguem os problemas e valorizem este espaço. Na oitava edição das Jornadas Internacionais sobre "Grandes Problemáticas do Espaço Europeu", continuaremos a privilegiar o quadro europeu, mas alargando a outros espaços, repensando políticas territoriais visualizadas a diversas escalas e considerando até espaços de grande dimensão, segundo múltiplas perspetivas -geográfica, histórica, ambiental, jurídica, económica, social e cultural. Assim se abordarão temáticas incisivas, como o desenvolvimento sustentável, num contexto em que a preservação se conjuga com a inovação, com particular incidência sobre espaços periféricos, mas também sobre meios urbanos, numa dialética onde está patente uma renovação. No âmbito social, realçam-se parâmetros fulcrais do quadro demográfico, mas também a cultura e as interculturalidades, para além dos fundamentos históricos e jurídicos das dinâmicas territoriais, numa abordagem indutora à mudança e à superação do quadro que sobressai nos dias de hoje numa sociedade também ela a aguardar estratégias inclusivas e inovadoras. Neste evento internacional em que as pluralidades territoriais e culturais estão patentes, privilegia-se uma abordagem multidisciplinar e interuniversitária, apostando-se em territórios bem diferenciados, mas, sobretudo, em estratégias de desenvolvimento em que a inovação, o empreendedorismo, a complementaridade e a sustentabilidade estão patentes. Assim se potenciam os recursos endógenos e o património distintivo, repensando as políticas territoriais numa perspetiva em que se conjugam as sinergias tendentes à preservação do ambiente, ao ordenamento do território, à coesão social e à recuperação económica. VIII International Study Seminars "Overarching Issues of the European Area"

In a highly heterogeneous yet multifaceted European area with a wealth of potentialities, we have witnessed the rising of inequalities and the aggravation of problems, through which a generalised crisis has taken root, transversal to all sectors. In order to encourage the development of the European area, under a framework of constructive change, it is urgent to analyse the dynamics that can boost its revitalisation, defining strategies that can mitigate the problems and enhance the territory through the application of structural, conjectural, innovative and sustainable policies. The 8th edition of the International Study Seminars on the "Overarching Issues of the European Area" intends to continue to reflect on the European setting but widening its focus to other areas, rethinking spatial policies at several scales and considering even large areas, from multiple approaches - geographical, historical, environmental, legal, economic, social and cultural. There is an urgent need to reflect on the different themes, to rethink spatial policies that are inclusive, and take into consideration the diversity of scenarios and the impact of emerging countries on a world in change where the uncertainties multiply. Thus, the event intends to approach incisive topics, such as sustainable development, in a context in which conservation is intersected with innovation, with particular focus on the economic dimension and its contingencies. The enhancement of the regional specificities should however be highlighted, particularly those of the peripheral spaces, such as the rural, set within a problematic context but which, at the same time, has enormous potential and is highly receptive to new opportunities. This is clear in the innovative, distinctive projects being developed that boost and enhance their value. The urban centres will also be addressed, in a dialectical relation with the former, but which are marked by renovation. This international event, clearly focused on the territorial and cultural pluralities, aims to explore a multidisciplinary and interuniversity approach, with the participation of French, Bulgarian, Romanian, Galician, Brazilian and Portuguese specialists, focusing on a diversity of territories and based on comparative studies which not only exemplify the major issues but also, and most particularly, the development strategies in which innovation, entrepreneurship, complementarity and sustainability are present. Thus, the endogenous resources and distinctive heritage of these regions can be boosted, rethinking the spatial policies from a perspective which is conducive to environmental conservation, spatial planning, social cohesion and economic recovery.
