A list of further selected readings will be provided on Moodle.
The starting point will be a "brainstorming" about the nature and specificities of multimedia translation. Concepts and terminology will be discovered through reading of theoretical texts, and then discussed in class. Tools and other resources will be discovered, assessed, and shared in class and on the Moodle platform.
Classes will be eminently practical, with students working on different subtitling tasks in groups under the guidance of the class teacher. All students will take an active part in the joint process of analysis, enquiry, asking and answering questions, giving and taking ideas, opinions, and reasons for translation choices. Feedback will be provided on each task, and subtitles will be revised following the comments and suggestions of the teacher and peers.
A group project work consisting in subtitling a short video (15 to 20 minutes) will be carried out progressively, and feedback will be provided and discussed in class.
Each student will present a multimedia translation technique (video games localisation, audiodescription, etc.).
