Objectives
Students should enhance the five language skills defined by the Common European Framework for languages in order to reach an advanced level between C1 and C2.
Learning outcomes and competences
The following learning outcomes are expected to be achieved:
- improved ability (1) to understand complex texts in written, oral or multimodal form; (2) to mine corpora and to use other available resources in order to enhance their language skills;
- improved summary and report writing skills;
- improved fluency in both speech and writing;
- improved practical and intercultural skills;
- awareness of cultural, regional and social diversity within the French-speaking community.

Pre-requirements (prior knowledge) and co-requirements (common knowledge)
Students should have passed the French language test.
Program
1. Cultural and linguistic diversity of French around the world.
2. Reading authentic documents: awareness of different registers; identification of collocations and idiomatic phrases; awareness of modality, connotation and denotation; cohesion and coherence issues; awareness of the diversity of text types and genres.
3. Understanding authentic oral and multimodal speech: listening for gist or extended meaning, for specific information; critical listening; listening to lectures and note-taking; interpreting fairly complex arguments.
4. Oral and written texts contraction: report, summary and synthesis methodology; resources mobilisation (grammars, dictionaries, terminology databases, corpora, style guidelines, spell checker, etc.) in order to improve writing skills; paraphrase, restatement; proofreading.
5. Discussions, debates and oral presentations.

Teaching methods and learning activities
Interactive and task-oriented approach.
The proposed activities aim to develop students’ skills and autonomy by completing various tasks, individually or in a group, in order to achieve results to be shared in class or on the Moodle platform.
These tasks include (1) searching for language resources and contemporary texts of different types to be commented on and shared on the e-learning platform (forum); (2) group role-playing exercises (debates) and individual oral presentations; (3) writing abstracts, summaries and reports; (4) listening, reading and multimedia comprehension of authentic oral, written or multimedia materials; (5) reflection on learning outcomes.
