a) To reflect on the implications of the processes of convergence in the media in the social, cultural, political, etc. dynamics;

b) To understand the set of on going changes both in terms of technological, social and cultural challenges, whether of national and European policies;

c) To stimulate the accomplishment of the state of the art of media convergence of cultures, in the research area of each student;

d) To encourage individual and group discussions on the issue of media convergence of cultures.                  

Learning outcomes and competences

After the UC, the student should be able to:

- Have a broad perspective on the convergence of cultures in the media, and in particular the issues that most concern him in the area of information sciences and communication

- Have developed the ability to formulate critical opinions about the convergence of cultures, adapting them to their cultural contexts and work

Teaching methods and learning activities

Expositive teaching, supported by projections, in order to supply the basic theoretical concepts; discussion among the class of the theoretical foundations of the subjects; individual research on convergence of media in the area of students interests, followed by presentation and discussion with the group.

This methodological diversity among lecturing, group discussion and individual research clearly allows achieving specified objectives.

Assessment: class participation and oral and written presentation of a theoretical study on the impact of media convergence in the specific context of communication.

Eligibility for exams

The frequency is obtained if the final grade is equal to or higher than 10 and if the student has not exceeded the absence limit.

Calculation formula of final grade

The final evaluation is calculated as follow:

Participation in Classes: 20%

Interim Work: 30%

Final Project: 50%

The assessment is cumulative, with the student required to submit a Final Project. In each evaluation topic, the student should obtain a grade equal ou higher than 10.
