Objectives

1. Deepen grammar knowledge and reflect on how to teach it. 2. Promote knowledge about grammar teaching methodologies that are appropriate to elementary and secondary education levels. 3. Develop the competence to teach grammar using grammar laboratories.

Learning outcomes and competences

Students should be able to: 1. explain the scope of grammar; 2. explain grammatical contents, namely in morphology, syntax and semantics; 3. know the pedagogical-didactic implications of different methodologies of grammar teaching; 4. plan teaching-learning sequences of grammatical contents taking into account the grammar laboratory method; 5. produce didactic materials to support grammar laboratory activities; 6. conduct grammar laboratory classes in elementary and/or secondary education; 7. analyze the data gathered from the classes to evaluate the effectiveness of the teaching-learning process and to improve the teaching materials.

1. The scope of grammar. 2. Grammar teaching methodologies. 2.1. The grammar laboratory. 3. Some themes to work experimentally *: 3.1. Morphology: verb inflection; word formation processes. 3.2. Syntax: syntactic functions; complex sentences: coordination and subordination. 3.3. Semantics: nominal reference; tense and aspect. 3.4. Text/discourse: textual sequences; cohesion and coherence. 

* Students will choose four themes to work on the grammar laboratory.
