In this course, students of the German language will be able to deepen and consolidate their knowledge of the contents taught in level B1 and will be familiarized with the relevant contents for level B2. Thus, the transition from the initiation level to the intermediate level will be facilitated. In addition, the curricular unit aims to prepare students to take a master's course with German.
At the end of the semester they should be able to:
- read and understand, in oral comprehension and reading, the content of more extensive texts, within the thematic areas studied and current topics, including texts with abstract or technical themes;
- develop lexical skills to understand and summarize written texts (adapted and authentic, such as online articles, comments and reports) on the topics covered;
- develop oral presentation techniques on subjects studied;
- present and defend, orally, different points of view about current and controversial topics and express themselves fluently, clearly and spontaneously in German, in the interaction with the teacher and with their fellow student.
- draw up and explain, in a clear and detailed manner, a point of view;
- develop and apply abstract techniques based on authentic texts.
Through the work with materials, which contain a diverse range of texts, exercises and tasks that aim to develop the four competences and the lexicon in a systematic and progressive way, students consolidate and deepen their knowledge and linguistic abilities - indispensable tools to master various communicative situations that occur in everyday life. In addition, students are confronted with the culture / reality of German speaking countries by reading authentic texts and viewing / listening to audiovisual materials. Grammar knowledge is acquired through further study of textual phenomena in their context.
Based on the objectives of the curricular unit of German B1 complementary, the teaching methods adopted in the classes aim at the development of all language skills, namely oral and written comprehension, oral expression with and without interaction, written expression, including study of lexicon and grammar. The proposed activities will be based on communication situations that are as close as possible to authentic situations.
The communicative methodology aims to motivate the student to "learn how to learn", moving from a passive role to an active role in language learning. Thus, grammar and lexicon will be studied as essential tools for understanding or producing utterances corresponding to different speech acts.
The evaluation components proposed in the scope of the distributed evaluation (tests, works, presentations, projects) will aim to allow the teacher and the student to check progress in reviewing and deepening existing knowledge and acquiring new content.
In the course unit "German B1 complementary" the lexicon and idiomatic expressions related to the content treated will be worked on. Students will study current topics related to society, politics, history and culture of German speaking countries. From these thematic units, specific lexical and grammatical competences will be developed. Particular attention will be given to subjects related to higher education and working life.
With regard to grammar, students will consolidate the contents according to level B1 and also will be familiarized with selected grammar topics from level B2.
Practical classes; various teaching strategies, group work or individual work, independent work (homework) using materials indicated and /or provided by the teacher in order to consolidate their knowledge and bridge any shortfalls. Since the mode of assessment is "assessment without final exam", particular importance is attributed to regular and active collaboration in the classroom so that the students are able to develop the different skills.
