The main goal for this class is to provide students with tools which will allow them to critically reflect upon today’s Spain, returning to a recent past in order to draw a political, social, economical and artistic point of view. Students will be talked through the profound changes Spain has experienced over the last century, as well as the processes which have transformed the nation in a modern and developed country, despite the meaningful core diversity and the consequent internal and external conflicts.
As our subsidiary objectives we would like the students to be able to identify the main political, economic and social affairs, which reflect Spain in the 20th Century, whilst following a chronological order and they shall be able to relate recent historical events in Spain to economic, social and artistic manifestations.
-Identify the main political, economic and social events that characterize the twentieth-century Spain.
-Interrelate twentieth-century Spanish historical events with economical, social and artistic expressions.
- Recognize the most important twentieth-century Spanish political figures.
- Recognize the most important twentieth-century Spanish artistic figures, attending to all art expressions.
- Identify idiosyncratic features of the Autonomous Communities: monuments, gastronomy, festivals, customs, rituals, traditions, tourist attractions, etc.
-Appreciate linguistic diversity of Spain and its artistic heritage.
As the subject will be taught in Spanish, it is recommended that students have some knowledge of the language.

This no mandatory class attendance UC is divided into theory/practice sessions and tutorial sessions. We shall use varied resources, such as Powerpoint presentations, authentic documents (textual and audiovisual material), technological tools, etc.
Classes may be delivered in a virtual way, once all the theoretical themes and exercises will be available at Sigarra.

The maximum obtainable grade in the written exam is 15 points; to get a positive mark students must have at least 6,75 points in the written exam, this grade will complemented with the remaining 5 points from the mandatory group oral presentation, which will be assigned at the beginning of the semester and must be handed in during the last class weeks. Students who fail to give this oral presentation will not be allowed to go the written exam. Both the written exam and the group oral presentation may be done in Spanish or Portuguese, according to the students’ choice.

Student must obtain at least 6,75 points in the written exam. The points from the mandatory assignment will be added to the exam, and that shall be the final grade.
During the semester all students must do a presentation in class.

The final examination of the subject will have the following structure:
