Objectives
The objective of this course is to familiarize students with the field of multimedia translation and the characteristics that are inherent to it, taking into account the interaction between different semiotic systems; Special attention will be given to the subtitling process: phases that constitute it, and the strategies available to implement them, depending on the purpose and target audience for each program resources.
Learning outcomes and competences
The objective of this course is to familiarize students with the field of multimedia translation. Students must: be able to analyze multimedia texts and their multiple semiotic systems, paying particular attention to the interaction between the different codes; be able to make correct use of the terminology of multimedia translation; know the process of professional subtitling well including all phases that constitute it; implement the language and technical skills necessary for the subtitling of an audiovisual program; produce interlinguistic subtitles adequate to the purpose, type and target audience of a particular audiovisual program, paying particular attention to cultural references; apply the conventions established by the "Code of Good Subtitling Practice "; have a general knowledge of other areas of multimedia translation, namely dubbing, voice over, audio - description and subtitling for the deaf and hard of hearing.

- Localization of multimedia materials (video games and websites)
- Practical exercises to familiarize the students with the translation of materials not only for film and television but also for the most varied products available online and for the most varied audiences
- Resources available for subtitling on the Internet and use of the various types of existing software
- Individual subtitling projects (trailers, advertising, etc.)
- Presentation on another field of multimedia translation (excluding subtitling)
- Team project: subtitling of an entire film

Teaching methods and learning activities
After some initial sessions on the specific characteristics of multimedia translation and its terminology, students are asked to carry out the individual subtitling work of different multimedia materials (trailers, commercials, documentaries, etc..), which is always subject to examination and discussion in class, students are also responsible for the preparation of a brief PowerPoint presentation on another area of multimedia translation such as dubbing, audio description, etc.. Apart from these tasks, they also have to participate in a collective project of subtitling an entire film, a different work that requires a bigger effort, to ensure the consistency of the choices made.
