Objectives

- To know the peculiar characteristics of water and its importance to life;
- Understand the operation of the hydrological cycle and its role in water and heat distribution in globe surface;
- Identify problems related to water resources at various scales of analysis;
- Characterize the extreme hydrological events and their implications for spatial planning;
- Analyze the problem of water governance, particularly the economic, environmental, legal and social issues.
- Evaluate the consequences of climate change on water resources.

Learning outcomes and competences

- Know the main uses and needs of the water and its socio-economic impact and planning instruments for the management of water resources.
- Know and be able to interpret the main EU and nacional legislation on water regulation.
- Acquire an integrated understanding of the issue of water management.
