Understand the discourse produced in a given social context as a sign of the interrelations between language and context.
Understand the discourse as an object of analysis under specific lingustic methodologies
Deepen the textual analytical and production skills.
By the end of the semester the students should be able to:
1. Understand the discourse as a means of self-construction, of construction of the Reality and the Other and as a means of socialization;
2. Reveal knowledge in the field of different linguistic theories and methods of Discourse Analysis.
3. Identify the mechanisms of language conversion into speech;
4. Recognize the genres / types of discourse as features of various linguistic-discursive strategies;
5. Exercise techniques of discourse analysis in spoken, written and visual texts;
6. Exercise techniques of linguistic discourse analysis in different genres / types of discourse;
7. Exercise techniques of production in different genres / types of discourse;
8. Dominate techniques of rigorous linguistic description.

VIII. Corpus Linguistics – General overview
The teaching / learning process is based on lectures and tutorials: 15 TP and 15 OT. In TP sessions the theoretical description of contents is made, followed by the implementation of activities on concrete examples. In the OT sessions discourse analysis related to the matters under consideration are proposed. The materials used in class are available on the Sigarra platform.
The mode of evaluation of the course consists of assessment without final exam. The final grade for the course corresponds to a weighted average of the marks obtained in the components of practical work and written test, with weights of 40%/60%.
There is a compulsory 75% attendance.
The research work should be based on theoretical readings, but also contain a practical component of linguistic-pragmatic analysis of authentic discourse.The activities developed focus on acquiring linguistic methodologies for a competent analysis both of interactional oral and written discourses.
