Objectives

Through the contrast of the Portuguese and Spanish and the use of texts with different characteristics in the native language, the student should be able to develop his analytical skills to interpret the text role and adequacy to the goal language. It is also wanted the student achieves knowledge of the translation theory to its appliance in dexterity translation practices (translate texts applying the most adequate strategy techniques to each context and to discuss in a critical way the translated texts)

Learning outcomes and competences

At the end of the semester, the student will be capable of:

 

1. Acquire appropriate principles of translation

 

2 Learn to analyze a text regarding to its translation

 

3. Know how to properly use the documentation procedures

 

4. Learn to apply the concept of equivalence in translation

 

5. Learn about some of the procedures and methods of translation

 

6. Review and grade translations

Eligibility for exams

Attending 75% of classes, unless established otherwise by law.

As it is a practical subject, students must perform translations during the semester being evaluated some of them and whose maximum value is 16 points; the remaining 4 points correspond to the final exam. Students that do not deliver translations requested throughout the semester may not attend the final exam.

Calculation formula of final grade

Students will take two written tests which consist on two translations and a comment about a translation decision.

The first written test: the last day we have class of this subject the week before Easter. Maximum mark: 9.

The second written test: the last day we have class of this subject in June. Maximum mark: 11.

The final mark will be the addition of both marks.

Additional information about dates and types of texts will be provided at the beginning of the semester.
