Objectives

This program is based on the reading and in-depth study of texts by the authors indicated below. Their interpretation is placed on the development of institutions related to written culture (monasteries, scriptoria, libraries, schools, university) and to the processes of contact with the major cultural centers (emergence of thinkers/teachers, studies abroad, book circulation), thus underlining the contribution of these authors to the discussion of key issues in Philosophy. Emphasis is also given to the diversity of literary genres (sermon, summa, commentary, dialogue, treatise, question), their structures and purpose. In some texts, students will engage in the study of the reception of Aristotle in particular.
