Objectives
At the end of the seminar students should be able to:
- analyze macro and micro structure (collocations, terminology, phraseology, information structure, register and style) of scientific and technical text with different specialization levels (academic, industrial, promotional);
- select the strategy and solutions most adequate to the purpose of the translated material, to the specific needs and to its recipients;
- Justify translation decisions to potential clients, with an adequate use of metalinguistic terms;
- evaluate the viability of documental, terminological and phraseological resources (Internet, electronic corpora, dictionaries and data bases, bibliographic resources);
- Use translation tools in an efficient way (search engines and automatic translation, revision tools, useful both to translation and terminology);
- acquire enough knowledge in the subjects approached during the seminar and specialize in a determined scientific or technical area;
- work in teams and network so as to improve the quality of the translation product.
