Objectives
By the end of the third semester of the Master course, students should have reached the level C2.1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages CEFR) in all skills (oral comprehension, reading, conversation and writing).
Therefore, by the end of the semester, students should be able:
1. to express themselves in German in different (professional and academic) situations, orally and in written text, and to choose the appropriate register, according to the situation or the context;
2. to produce different text types which are relevant for academic instruction, such as report, article und written work for academic purposes (paper);
3. to express themselves with grammatical correctness and lexical differentiation according to the specific situation;
4. to express complex matters in a well structured way;
5. to understand specialized texts in German and to reproduce/summarize the contents;
6. to express themselves orally in different communicative situations, with fluency and extensive knowledge of vocabulary;
7. to retrieve and process information from specialized texts in German.
Program
During the semester students will improve their language skills in German in order to reach level C2.1 in the different skills. As they will already be working on their Master’s thesis in the next semester, we will practice techniques which will be useful for research and reading of specialized texts. Therefore, literary and specialized texts, according to the interests and the needs of the students, will be focussed on during the lessons. Furthermore, students will present oral and written academic work (papers). Contents and language work will, when necessary, be defined according to the students’ needs and their future academic work (Master’s thesis).
Besides specialized and literary texts and authentic audio texts we will work with other material at the level of C2.1, such as material for preparing students for Test DaF and DSH.
