Objectives
To know and understand the relationship between natural and social dynamics as well define the related risk.
To understand the work flow on land use planning related with the risk management.
To study the contributions of the natural hazard to land use management.
Analyse the effects of the land use management at the process of mitigation of territorial vulnerability.

I. To enchase the natural hazards in the epistemology of Geography.
II. Definition of Natural Hazards and Catastrophe.
III. Natural hazard perception – conceptual and methodological aspects.
IV. Natural hazards and mass media - conceptual and methodological aspects.
V. Natural hazards in the land use planning tools.
VI. Types of natural hazards.
1. Climatic Hazards.
1.1. Droughts.
1.2. Intense precipitations.
1.3. Avalanches.
1.4. Strong winds (hurricanes, typhoons, etc).
1.5. Global worming vs Interglaciar age.
2. Hydrological hazards.
2.1. Concepts of floods and inundations,
2.2. Progressive floods.
2.3. Flash floods.
3. Geomorphologic hazards.
3.1. Mass movements.
3.2. Seismic hazard.
3.3. Geomorphologic hazards linked with littoral dynamic.

Teaching methods and learning activities
The sessions will be based on theoretic and practical processes and presentation of the development of the student work.

Distributed evaluation without final exam
Eligibility for exams
75% of presences.
Calculation formula of final grade
Individual participation - 10%
Final report - 70%
Presentations at classes - 20%.
