Objectives
This course unit is designed for students to gain further knowledge regarding cities, especially taking into special account reading land-base dynamics and the several different scales and times. Upon completion, students should be able to establish a relation between cities and spatial planning and discuss mutual effects.
Program
The growth of urban planning worldwide and in Portugal.
Principles and agents of urbanism.
Problems, policies, plans and actions in central areas.
Problems, policies, plans and actions in area surrounding the consolidated city.
Teaching methods and learning activities
Lectures, debates and field trips.

Evaluation with final exam
Eligibility for exams
To successfully complete this course unit, students are required to attend at least 75% of classes and achieve 10 out of 20 marks.
Calculation formula of final grade
For all students, whether working students or not, absence in more than 25% of classes due to illness/medical reasons, work or other, can be compensated by an extra question in the final exam.
Lack of student participation in collective work or in their presentation can be replaced by an extra question in the exam or by oral exam (to be defined by the lecturer).
