Objectives

The aim of the seminar is to develop the student’s consciousness of the various implications of the import of a foreign source-text by another cultural and literary system.

Program

In articulation with the seminar of “Literary Translation Theory”, theoretical knowledge is already presupposed. Therefore, this seminar is essentially practical. It will focus on a selection of German literary texts of different genres translated into Portuguese.
Although linguistic problems/solutions will not be neglected, the main approach will be cultural, englobing historical, systemic, literary and sociological aspects.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Theoretical and especially practical classes, in which the active participation of the students will be promoted.
