Abstract (EN):
In this paper an investigation on the applicability of nonlinear numerical models in the safety examination of existing concrete bridges is described. A new concept that uses the force displacement relationship for the safety verification to the Ultimate Limit States under dynamic traffic actions is presented. A short overview on the available approaches to the numerical modelling of concrete behaviour is given in the first part of the paper. Then the results obtained from the analyses of two real scale (20m span) prestressed beams are presented and compared to the findings from an experimental campaign. Finally some conclusions are drawn.
