Certificates and Diplomas

A certificate is an official document issued by the academic management service in order to prove situations of interest to the student. Certificates may be requested in the student’s page on the right side option “Certificates". These documents will be issued once the following requirements are met:

  • Indication of the term of issue and of its respective submission.
  • Payment of the respective fees.
  • Requests will only be accepted if the payment of tuition fees are up to date;
Remarks:
  • Once a student has obtained a diploma for a degree, they cannot request grade improvements.
  • The first Certificate of Completion shall be issued within 30 days. The urgency rate is not applicable.
  • 2nd cycle students who completed their studies will be granted a Certificate of a Masters programme (not a degree).
  • 3rd cycle students who completed their studies will be granted a Certificate of a Doctoral programme (not a degree).

Legislation on degrees and Diplomas

Formal diploma


Formal diploma, issued by a legally competent authority, and by which a student obtains an academic degree. Students requesting a diploma are subject to paying a fee as per U.Porto’s Table of fees. 3rd cycle students are certified with a doctoral degree upon public oral examination (viva voce) and upon approval of the dissertation.

Diploma Supplement


The Diploma Supplement is a bilingual document, complementary to the Certificate of Completion, and is aimed at enabling a national and international acknowledgement of attained results and complementary activities undertaken by the graduate student, as per Order No. GR. 03/02/2010. The Diploma Supplement is merely informative. It is issued by the academic management service upon request of a Certificate of Completion.
