From December 6, 2019 to July 19, 2020, the Natural History and Science Museum of the University of Porto (MHNC-UP) will be hosting the exhibition entitled Cultures and Geographies in its headquarters, the Historical Building of the Rectory of the University of Porto.
The exhibition has been co-organized by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto (FLUP) and the MHNC-UP, in collaboration with the Soares dos Reis National Museum, as part of FLUP’s centennial commemorations. It showcases the museum and art collections from the first phase of the faculty’s existence (1919-1931).
Originally used as teaching resources in three museum rooms of the original FLUP, these collections were moved to the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto in 1941 and are now on show at the MHNC-UP.
Through a set of 250 extraordinary pieces of archaeology and ethnography, visitors will be invited to travel over time and explore ways of life, experiences and rituals of human communities on each of the five continents.
