- Promote understanding, analysis and discussion of various theories of digital storytelling and interactive games;
Understand the concepts of ludology versus narratology;
- Promote the acquisition of knowledge in the game design development process;
- Promote understanding, analysis and discussion on the impact of video games on present society;
- Promote the ability to analyse and evaluate digital storytelling and interactive digital games;
The purpose of this course is to build a theoretical framework centered on technological mediation, particularly in human-computer interfaces, to consolidate the proposed PhD project of each student. The contribution of this course should be developed according to several complementary perspectives and culminate in the following specific objectives:
i) survey of problem cases in contexts of communication and / or information determined by the theme of each PhD project;
ii) analytical evaluation of a sustained interaction problems of usability and accessibility heuristics appropriate to the context in question;
iii) identification of methodologies for conceptualizing the interface that the user reconciles the perspectives with assumptions of usability, accessibility and comfort cognitive;
iv) integration of knowledge acquired in the “state of the art” of the thesis project and in the methodological basis of doctoral work.
The central objective of this curricular unit is to increase the student’s knowledge and understanding of media’s social significance. It aims to reveal the work of the media industries, the ways media texts convey their meanings, the ways audiences engage themselves with media, and provide basic knowledge about the theory of networks as well as identify in the new interactive platforms, specific forms of sociability. At the end of the curricular unit, a student should have gained a more extensive and critical appreciation of media’s function in people’s lives and their role as a central institution in contemporary society which helps us to make sense of our world
1. Update and deepen students' knowledge on key scientific and epistemological paradigms that influence current research in the area of Communication and Information Sciences;
2. Develop the knowledge and skills of students with the resources and tools to search, retrieval and sharing and communication of scientific information that are offered throughout the course.
