Objectives

The syllabus is based on the guidelines, programs and curricular goals established for the teaching of Geography in basic and secondary education. Within the accomplishment of the main purpose of complementing, reinforcing and strengthening the academic knowledge acquired by students during their basic course, it is intended to achieve the following objectives:

- Complementing, reinforcing and strengthening the basic academic education in Geography, focusing the necessary knowledge to the teacher training of Geography in basic and secondary education;

- Enhancing the localization and diversity of geographic distributions and the understanding of the multiscale spaces of spatial relationship;

- Selecting knowledge, methodologies and techniques of geographic localization and interpretation appropriate to the representation of space at different scales.

Learning outcomes and competences

This UC focus questions like the distinction of Geography as a subject that approaches territories in an integrating perspective between nature and societies, the critical application of knowledge and earth surface representation instruments, and the judicious selection of processes and localization elements among different elements and geographic themes

So with this UC is intended that students master basic content of geographical knowledge, underlying the teaching of Geography in basic and secondary education. The aim is that students develop the constant updating and application of knowledge and skills relating to the representation of the earth's surface and the location of elements of the earth's surface.

Teaching methods and learning activities

The adopted methodologies satisfy the purpose expressed under art. 8 Decree Law (Decreto-Lei) 79-2014, that is, the reinforcement and strengthening of the acquired knowledge in the academic building in Geography by students is now approached by the teaching area of this 2nd cycle in a perspective of extra complementing knowledge on basis of a process between theoretical and critical reflection moments on themes defined in the curricular guidelines of basic and secondary education.

In this context, the teacher of the UC will conduct a coordinated management of the theoretical and practical sessions, ensuring the reinforcement of the learning processes and knowledge within Geography and Spatial Planning. Having in mind the activity of these future professionals in the teaching of Geography in basic and secondary education (EBS), therefore, the continuing need of training, updating and questioning on the contents they will teach, the sessions of this CU consist of moments dedicated to the exposition highly mediated by challenges for students to participate with the aim of developing their abilities to mobilize and strengthen theoretical and practical frameworks.
