Objectives

To teach the student the methods of field survey and excavation defended by the protocols of field archeology; also to teach him the first hand treatment of the different "materials" in laboratory.

Learning outcomes and competences

The student will be able to collaborate in projectos/programs of archaeological field survey and archaeological excavation as a licensed technician, directed by a professional (archaeologist)

II Archaeological excavation
1. Objectives and basic concepts concerning the formation process of materialities
2. Different methods of excavation, recording and sampling
2.1. Preparatory procedures for excavation
2.2.Processes of excavation and recording of structures and stratigraphies
2.3.Relative and absolute dating methods used in archeology
2.4. Processes and strategies for collecting artifacts, micro and macro plant specimens and laboratory treatment
3. Organization and systematization of all documentation collected on a dig site in order to create of the "history" of the site in its spatial and chronological-cultural context

The most practical work is based on the handling of cartography in order to perform a  record of an archaeological site  and to understan the spatiality  in an excavation context.
