The objective of the course is the transmission of basic knowledge of Middle High German from both a diachronic and synchronic perspective.

The objective of the subject is the deepening of knowledge and the capacity to read Middle High German and the exemplary transmission of diachronic perspectives of the history of the German language from Old High German to the end of the 16th century on the levels of phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, with special reference to historical semantics. Reference will also be made to aspects of language contact and basic questions of medieval bi- and multi-lingualism, particularly with regard to relation between Latin and German.
